Beatrix Update

I found Beatrix having fun in the bathroom the other day.  She is quite the fan of toilet paper.
We had an hour to kill on base while waiting for the kids and I decided to try out the swings.  She wasn't sure what to think and I was freezing so after a few minutes we just went and sat in the car.  We we both happier in the warm car.
Sometimes she gets stuck behind the curtains, it is pretty cute.
I'm glad that she can watch the older kids playing outside and be entertained.  This way I don't have to go out with her.

We like to take selfies together.  And as hard as I try I cannot get her to keep a bow/hat/or headband on.

I can't believe her birthday is coming up!  She is still a little baby to me.

I love Grandma

Beatrix is our little Japanese baby, well, kind of.  She obviously isn't Japanese, but to us she is the closest to Japanese anyone in our family will ever be.  She even has some baby clothes with Nihongo writing on them.
We had no idea what they said and had to ask.  Apparently they say, "I love Grandma."
The Japanese style onesies are different than the American ones I'm used to.  They tie like a robe and only two buttons on the bottom.  I have to say I prefer the three buttons because her diaper keeps showing between the two button system.

She didn't like that I kept putting her back and then jumping away from her and pointing my phone at her.  I'm sure it was really confusing as to why I kept pushing her away and wouldn't let her crawl to me.

Beatrix 11 Months

Beatrix is eleven months old!  We spent the last month feeding her as much as we could and it paid off.  She gained about a kilogram!  So she went from below the first percentile up to the seventh!  For those interested, coconut oil has a lot of calories in it.  It is also fairly easy to mash up and add to any baby food.
She now wakes more during the night to eat then ever, which is a pain.  I started nursing her every hour and a half, so it was almost like she was a newborn again.  I didn't quite feed her that often in the middle of the night but I was up nursing her about three times a night.  I'm just glad it paid off and she is gaining.  Hopefully we can transition her to more table food and she will continue to gain weight at the same time.

Besides eating, Beatrix started walking along furniture.  She even let go for a second here and there.  I don't think she is very close to walking, walking though.

Beatrix 10 Months

Beatrix is ten months old!
I finally got a chance to take her to the doctor.  We were a bit behind because it was hard to get into the hospital on base.  They kept saying she wasn't registered and we kept having to go in with different documents.  The whole thing was weird because she has been to the very same hospital before, not to mention that she was born there.
Anyway, she is measuring small.  I knew she was small which was one reason I wanted to get her in for an appointment, it is also whey I am still feeding her during the night.  But I didn't know exactly how small she really is.  She is measuring under the 1% for both weight and height.

We are going to work hard this month on helping her gain weight.  I was already feeding her more often then I did my other kids, but I guess it wasn't enough.  She is a really happy baby though so it was a little hard to tell.  She doesn't really cry because she is hungry.  I am now going to nurse her every hour and a half and hopefully that will help her start to put on some pounds.

We have started giving her baby food, not that it has anything to do with her weight gain.  The doctor confirmed what I thought about how giving her baby food is just for practice and not really for nutritional value.
Other than that she is meeting all her milestones.  She can crawl like a pro and pulls herself up to a stand.  She likes to wave and clap and smile at everyone.  She doesn't say any real words yet, but I'm sure she will sometime soon.
We sure do love her!

Beatrix's First Food

We officially gave Beatrix her first food the other day.  I say officially because I know she has gotten snippets of food here and there off the floor a few times before now.  Anyway, it was homemade greek yogurt.  It went ok.  She is over nine months old, so older than we fed any of the other kids. I really just don't see the point in it right now and I don't have a lot of extra time to be dealing with baby food.  But I know that eventually she will need to transition into eating table food with us so we do need to start sometime.

Beatrix 9 Months Old

Beatrix is nine months old.  She crawls now and has two teeth right on the front bottom.  She kind of did an army crawl before but during this last month she has perfected the proper crawling form.  It kind of stinks for me because now she is much faster getting around than she used to be.
We haven't officially fed her food yet, but she has definitely gotten food samples that she finds on the floor, in particular near Calista's seat.
She wasn't being very cooperative for these photos because she kept crawling away.
Sleeping hasn't changed much this month.  I'm still feeding her once or twice in the middle of the night.

Beatrix is 8 Months Old

I totally forgot to post these pictures on the blog.  Oops.  Beatrix is 8-months-old and ready to go trick-or-treating.
She is not really going to be a witch but I thought this little set up is cute.  She is ready though, we told her we needed her to be able to sit before trick-or-treating and she can do it.  I want to pull her around in a wagon so sitting is needed.
Beatrix is really a good baby.  We just love having her around the house with us.  She really isn't that much work at all and just feels like my little buddy who goes everywhere with me.
She is totally scared of strangers, which usually isn't a problem because she is with me or Bob all the time.  Whenever someone else does try to hold her it doesn't go well.  That is ok though, she is perfectly happy to look and smile at you as long as you don't get in her face and try to pick her up.

7 Months Old

Beatrix is seven months old!
She is on the verge of both sitting and crawling but can't quite do either yet.  She is a pro at rolling over and doesn't stay on her back very long.  When on her stomach she can turn in a circle and always ends up going backwards.
She really didn't want me to take these pictures.  But I've been doing so well at getting them done right away that I didn't want to wait for her to be in a better mood.
We haven't given her any food yet, but she really likes to watch us eat and she does put everything she can get her hands on into her mouth, including her two middle fingers.
She really likes toys in general and is interested in getting things.  It's nice because now she can play a little more on her own.

I love this sweet girl!

Beatrix Rolling

Beatrix  can official roll over!  She has done it a few times now.  This isn't a video of her first time.  I actually didn't even see her first few rolls.  There were a couple times when I put her down for tummy time only to look at her a minute later and see she was on her back.  She doesn't do it on purpose yet, but I think she will soon.

Beatrix for Combi Mini

Photos from Beatrix's first modeling shoot were posted online.
She did really well the whole time.  She was getting really tired I was worried that she would just scream.  Each time I put her down she did scream for about 30 seconds but settled down quickly.  I liked working with this company because they were really quick with the babies.
I'm glad she got a job while she was still young and before any stranger anxiety started to kick in.

Good job Beatrix!
