Easter Fun

I felt pretty preoccupied with baby stuff this Easter.  It was hard for me to focus on Easter or plan things to do when I wasn't sure if I would have the baby or not.  I honestly just wanted to not be pregnant anymore.  But Easter has came and went with no baby...

Saturday I took the kids to a public egg hunt.  It wasn't our favorite one but we went to a park we've never been to before and the kids liked it.  They split the kids up into different age groups and the way they split it Scarlett got to go twice.  They had 2 and under, 3 to 5, then they went into grades with Kindergarten to first, second to third and fourth to fifth.  Scarlett being both 5 and in kindergarten she fit into both groups.  I wasn't really going to let her go twice, but she was pretty slow the first round and didn't get very much so we let her go again.  Tucker still got way more than she did so I don't feel bad.

I didn't get nearly enough pictures but like I said, I wasn't caring as much about Easter festivities as I usually do.  We squeezed in just enough time to decorate eggs.
We also made some Easter treats and read lots of Easter stories in the friend.  One story had a recipe for Easter rolls that ended up hallow in the middle to represent the empty tomb.  The kids really wanted to make those and so we did.  They were a little harder to make than we expected but in the end they did work.  We ate them for breakfast Easter morning.

During church the girls wore cute Easter hats and the choir and primary sang.  Bob, Tucker, and Penelope are all in the choir but Bob ended up being the only one to sing in front of sacrament meeting.  Penelope just likes to go to the choir practices not their performances and Tucker was being grumpy that morning.  Both songs sounded really good.

At home after church we had a small egg hunt.  The one at the park was more like a race.  At home we did a hunt where we really hid the eggs.  Each child had a different egg color to look for so they all got the same amount.  Days before Easter the kids kept asking to have them hidden hard.  I guess I hid them a little too hard because Tucker still can't find all of his.  I'm not telling him either.  It is kind of nice having him busy looking for his egg.

I went for a walk this morning and saw my neighbors pretty tree.  I love spring.

Watch What I'm Wearing

Happy Easter!!!  It is such a special and religious day.  For now though I want to talk about fashion.  I love all the Easter clothes and the tradition of buying new Easter dresses.  That didn't really happen for us this year because I couldn't find dresses I wanted for the girls for the right price.  Why is it so hard to find a nice dress with some sort of sleeves?  That's ok though, if I do find dresses later I'll just have to get them then.  Easter for me is usually when things start to feel more like spring.  I can't wait for warmer weather.

I'm about 38 weeks pregnant in this picture.

I wanted to get one picture with the kids before I have the baby.  The sun was in their faces though and they weren't happy about it.

#PrinceofPeace

With Easter coming up I like to take some time to think about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  I love the videos the church puts out.

Easter

After church on Easter I took some pictures of the kids.

Easter is such an important day.  This year I spoke in church about Christ's resurrection, so I spent a long time getting ready for that.  I really felt like I took the time to focus on the real reason for the holiday.  But on the other hand I was so busy with getting ready for my talk that I probably didn't teach the kids as much about our savior as I should have.  We did read a story about the saviors life and did one family home evening lesson on it... Hopefully they listened to my talk.

On Saturday before Easter we went to another's churches big outside Easter egg hunts.  I love them because they are usually quick and the kids can get a lot of candy.  This one we went to had a drawing for Easter baskets after the hunt was over.  But before the drawing they just picked someone from the audience to give out a giant stuffed hippo to.  And they picked Leon!  It helped that Bob was holding him up in the air.  Then for the drawing all our kids got chosen except for Penelope.  Leon even got picked so we told them to pick someone else instead.  It was sad for Penelope but the other kids were good at sharing with her.

We did our own hunt at home after I finished the pictures.  We like to actually hide the easter eggs.  Whereas at these big church ones they are just set out on the grass.  The kids said they wanted them hard and I think two eggs were never found.  This year a friend gave me the idea of doing a different color egg for each child.  That way they can all go at the same time, and they all get the same amount of eggs.  I can make sure I am hiding the older kids eggs harder than the younger ones.  It worked pretty well.

Bob took a picture of me filming the whole thing.

And Bob was so amazing that while I was taking the Easter pictures of the kids he made dinner.  A full out ham and everything!
I am truly grateful for the Savior and his resurrection.  I know that he is alive today and because of that we all will be alive again after we die.  I love my family so much I couldn't imagine not being with them forever!

Egg Decorating

We tried a couple new techniques this year while decorating eggs.  I bought a couple things last year after Easter for practically nothing and saved them for a year until now.  One was this spray paint thing.  It was pretty messy and not worth it.  I'd prefer the traditional dipping in colored water.  Tucker did think it was fun though.

Another thing we got was this cute egg holder and paint set.  The kids loved this one!  It was their favorite.  I think it was worth it because they just really loved to hand paint the eggs, and even leon could do it without the egg rolling around.

The last new one we tried was metallic paints.  This was the easiest, all we did was put a couple drops of paint in a baggie, add in the hard boiled egg and mush the paint around it.  No mess, and the colors were pretty.

Below are the final eggs.  Definitely kid quality.  Some years I like to see make some pretty eggs myself, but I didn't feel like it this year.

Watch What I'm Wearing

Happy Easter!!!!  I'm speaking in church today and am very nervous!  I would probably be less nervous if it was something I did all the time, but once I left college my only public speaking is at church every so often.  Anyway, I wore this outfit last week and I have been waiting for spring to wear it.  I tried it about a month ago but the color was just so light and bright I took it off and decided to wait a couple weeks.  I love winter fashion and probably have much more dark clothing than light, but it is fun to mix it up.

Egg Hunt

This year we did two Easter Egg hunts in Puyallup.  There are several churches that put on community hunts in my area, but this year we visited my parents.  I could only find one church that was doing one so we checked it out.  We have done a few before and I've found that they vary from huge crowded ones to almost awkward they are so small.  This one was just perfect, it wasn't crowed but there were enough people I didn't feel like we stood out and they had tons of candy!  Our kids baskets weren't big enough, we had to dump the candy into the white bags but those even broke through.  I think they got more candy then then did on Halloween!  Not that they need that much.  I still like to go to those hunts because the kids love them, and it gives them just another experience and memory.  Plus they had free bouncy houses and donuts!
After that we went to my parents house, watched conference, took naps and did an entirely different kind of hunt.  My family hid eggs in the back yard and the kids got to go out and find their set amount starting youngest to oldest.  I like this kind too because they don't have to worry so much about being fast, and they actually have to look for the eggs because they were hidden instead of just thrown in a grassy field.

My sister brought the biggest plastic eggs I've ever seen.

My parents have a nice backyard with plenty of hiding spots.

Unfortunately something happened to Leon because he woke up from his nap throwing up!  It was so sad.  He threw up several times an was feeling horrible.  He just sat on the couch and didn't even want to pick up any eggs or look or talk to anyone.  At least he had fun at the morning egg hunt.  And I'm saving his stuff for when he feels better.  I  might even hide it around the living room for him.
More about Leon tomorrow.
