DIY Bow Pillowcase Tutorial

This bow pillowcase took kind of a lot of fabric but it was very easy to make!

I have four pillows in my living room that all need new covers on them.  Washable ones so when sticky little hands grab them or babies spit up on them I can just throw them in the wash without ruining the pillows.  Since I couldn't decide on what colors I ended up buying different white fabrics and I am going to make 4 different kinds of cases.  The bow case is my first one completed!  And I have to say that the pillow looks way better than it did without the case (dingy white with marker drawings on it).

Materials Needed:
1 1/2 yard Material
18" Square Pillow
Matching Thread
Sewing Machine
Hand Sewing Needle
1) Cut your material.
You need:
one 18 1/2" x 18 1/2" square
two 12" x 18 1/2" rectangles
four 22" x 6" rectangles
two 2 3/4" x 7" rectangles

2) Take two of the 22" x 6" rectangles and sew along both of the long sides making sure the right sides are together.

3) Take the other two 22" x 6" rectangles and sew all the way around except for 1 1/2" making sure the right sides are together.

4) Cut the corners off.

5) Turn both pieces inside out.

6) Iron it.

7) Repeat steps 3-7 with the two 2 3/4" x 7" rectangles.

8) Take the piece that was sewn almost all the way around and pin it to itself.  Then sew along the end.  Do the same for the small piece.

9)  Turn them inside out.
10) Not really sure why this is on here twice.  Opps. haha Proceed to step 11.

11) Put the big piece through the small piece.

12) Arrange pleats how you like.

13) Squeeze the other rectangle with the open ends through the middle of the bow (make sure it is right side out first).

14) Pin the bow onto the center of the 18 1/2" square.  Fold it in half to make sure it is centered.  Then pin it on.

15)  Cut off the ends that hang over.

16) Hand sew the bow on making sure the thread doesn't show on the front of the bow. Do the back corners and the center of the bow.

17) Take one 12" by 18 1/2" piece and fold over one of the the 18 1/2" side.  Then fold it over again and pin it.  Do this to the other piece as well.

18) Lay them on top of the front of the bow so the right sides are together.  They should overlap a couple inches in the middle.  Pin them on.  Sew around the ends.  Turn it inside out and stick your pillow in.  You are done!
