Road Trip

Yay! I am so happy to have the internet back.  These past couple days without the internet have been killing me.  I think I normally could handel it fine if I was expecting it but I rely heavily on the internet for different things, especially when my kids are napping (netflix), and suddenly not having it the past couple of days was hard.

Anyway, I guess I will start with our road trip.  We drove about 22 hours in two days and overall it went pretty well.

Our first stop was to get gas.  I don't think we will ever get used to someone else pumping our gas like they do in Oregon.  Bob was out of the car and trying to do it when I remembered that it is not allowed.
I saw this cool bus at the gas station.

Our next stop was to visit Elder Woestman.  He just happened to be serving a mission in the ward that we happened to be driving through and they meet for sacrament right when we were passing through!  Ok, we may have known he was going to be there, but he was really surprised when we showed up!  It was fun.
With the kids we made sure to make lots of rest stops.  They needed to get out every couple of hours.
Unfortunately they didn't do this as much as I would have liked.  We left at 4:30 am and nobody took a nap until around noon, even then they were short naps.  I guess the car drive was just too exciting to nap.  As you can see we turned Scarlett's seat forward facing.  It isn't recommended until they are two but this way I could feed her while driving.
The kids did pretty good on the drive.  There was lots of arguing and whining and crying but that was to be expected.  I am happy there was no throwing up or getting sick.  The worst thing was we broke our portable dvd player.  We bought it for this trip and it was our first time using it.  Maybe there is some kind of warranty.
The drive was pretty and the weather was great.  On our first night we stayed at a super 8 somewhere in the top half of california and it wasn't very nice.  After our whole family got our swimsuits on to go swimming we were told it was closed for the winter!  I was surprised since it was 80 degrees out.  The kids were sad.  We let them go "swimming" in the bathtub.  We then went on a walk and I started to get scared because there was a very high population of homeless people.  I know they were probably all harmless but I could tell that some of them weren't exactly stable and the uncertainty just scared me.  So we went back and everyone was asleep before 9 pm.
Next stop Disneyland!

  1. What city did you stop in at the Super 8 hotel? So we know not to go there on our way down. Penelope doesn't look very happy in the Elder Woestman pictures. Can't wait for your next posting.

  2. We stayed at the Super 8 in Red Bluff CA. The room was fine, not the greatest but ok. We are going to try for somewhere else on the way back.
