Talk about Motherhood

I gave a talk in church yesterday.  I was super nervous and I am sure everyone could tell.  I am just happy that I got up there and did it in the first place.  I had a hard time sleeping because I kept thinking about it.  I even had a dream where I was giving the talk and I was late, I wasn't dressed in church clothes, and I couldn't find my talk.  It was scary.  I think part of the reason I was asked to give this talk was so that I could prove to myself that I could do it.  What a coincidence that I got asked to give a talk just days after I started dealing with major anxiety issues.

Anyway, my talk was about being a wife, mother and still yourself.  This is something that I really believe in, even more now that I gave a talk on it.  I think that it is so easy to loose yourself while raising your kids.  It is important that we understand that we are important regardless of our children.  I also talked about how your ability to help your children is not so great when you don't take care of yourself.  Mom needs a break every once in a while!

I saw on the news the other day that a mom went on vacation for a week when her baby was only 10 weeks old.  I personally don't think that is a big deal but I was shocked that people were being so mean to this mom.  People were really bashing her, saying that she isn't a good mom and things like that.  Being a mom is soooo hard and I really don't think we need to judge each other.

I am happy that I get to be a mom.  It is a great blessing.  Although there are days that I wish I could just not be a mom for a day or two and then jump back into it after my break. I guess that is one hard part of motherhood.  Once a mom, you are always a mom.  Even when on vacation or on a date Bob and I just talk about the kids to each other.

Ok, enough rambling from me.  Any thoughts on the subject?

  1. I'm just so glad you were able to get up and give your talk - that's great progress. :)

    I'm not exceptional at being a mother, but I am so grateful that I have a good boy, who generally does the right thing. I am also glad that we are close and can have a good laugh together and a good heart-to- heart when needed. Love that kid! :)

  2. Doranda, You gave a great talk. Your words were very realistic and honest. It is so important to be a complete person before we start deviding ourselves between children & husbands. You have a very healthy attitude and I am very glad to see you taking care of yourself. You go Girl!!!!

  3. I agree with Gayle. I think you do an awesome job as a wife, mother and still take time for you. I could tell you were a little nervous, but nonetheless it was a good talk!

  4. Great job on your talk, Doranda!

    It is so hard to be a mother, especially of young children. I remember those days so well, and they have come back with my daughter and her 2 kids here.

    You're doing great, anxiety and all-keep your chin up and hopefully life will get better for you soon. :-}
