We went out with friends the other night to a tiny little restaurant. I called it a hidden gem, not because it is actually hidden, but to us it was. We typically avoid little small Japanese restaurants because we have had a bad experience and you really never know what you are going to get. Typically they are not used to Americans and so even ordering can be a challenge, but this place was great.
We took up about half the place and sat at a little bar, just in front of us was where the chef stood and cooked. We didn't get a menu or anything, you just sort of get what the chef is making that day. Our friends said every time the have gone it has been great.
Our first dish was ratatouille, a carrot thing, and a chicken thing. I'm not really sure how to describe them, but it was just small portions and pretty good. I wish I got a picture of it, but I didn't. The next thing he passed over was baby corn. He said he picked them that same day and instructed us to eat the outside. So we didn't peel it and ate the stringy bits and all. I really liked it. Bob was hesitant to eat the outside, but in the end we all ate it and liked it.
Next we had a delicious cheese pizza. The last course was a hamburger with vegetables.
It was so fun and different to just not really know what we were getting. Every time we tried our food we were pretty happy with it.
Just writing this post makes me want to go again!
