How to Hollow out a Book

One thing I got Bob for Christmas was a hollowed out book.  It is perfect for hiding money or anything.  I think it will be especially nice for if we travel.  Then he can put his valuables in it and if someone riffles through his stuff they will likely just see the book and miss the stuff inside it.  It only cost me $1 and was pretty easy to make.  This tutorial will explain how you can easily make your own secret book hiding spot.

Materials Needed:
Hardcover Book
Mod Podge
X-acto knife or Dremel

 1) Use the Mod Podge to glue the pages together.  Generously apply it on all the sides.  Make sure you put something to create space between the pages and the cover.  Wait for it to dry
 2) Mark where you will cut.  I did 3/4" from the edges.
 3) Use the knife to cut the pages out.  Leave a couple pages uncut at the back.  This took me a couple hours and my hand was tired but it wasn't too difficult.  I wish I had a dremel with a blade for this part.
 4) Put another layer of thick mod podge over the inside edges of the paper.

 5) Place plastic wrap between the cover and the pages then put something heavy on top and let it dry.  This takes a while.  Now just hide things in it!
I found my book a the dollar store.  It wasn't as thick as I originally wanted but it was the thickest one they had and I think the title is fitting.

Cool. I was thinking about making something like this for my son for Christmas. He's into all kinds of spy stuff so I thought he'd like it. Well, I never got around to it and found a book with secret storage at an after Christmas clearance sale for only $3.99 Now I don't have to make it. I still like the DIY versions since you can totally customize them. They're cool. Thanks for sharing.

Love your design, and great book choice!

Is the book heavy at the end? I ask because I would love a hiding place for my valuables at the beach.. and this might be perfect!
