Tucker's EKG

This morning was Tucker's cardiologist appointment. For those of you who don't know, Tucker has had a heart mummer that the doctors found when he was about a month old. The doctors were hoping he would grow out of it, like many babies do, but when he still had it at a year they did a x-ray of his heart. Which turned out regular. When Tucker's new pediatrician heard his heart, she though it would be best to go ahead and set up a cardiologist appointment. So today we went in, and it was extra hard on Tucker because he has a really bad cold, but he was a trooper. First the nurse did usual measurements, then she did an EKG. Tucker didn't like it because he had about 11 cords hooked up to him (it was done through stickers, it didn't hurt) and he didn't want the nurse touching him. Then the doctor came in and he said that everything looks good so far but he wants to do an ultrasound. So Tucker got to get an ultrasound of his heart. It was pretty neat. As for the results, I forgot what specific kind of heart murmur the doctor called it. But he said that with this kind of heart murmur we have absolutely nothing to worry about. It will not cause any problems now, or in the future, and we don't even need to go back for any follow up appointments. What a relief.

Oh good! That is great news! I didn't even know he was born with a heart murmur...but I'm so glad it is nothing to worry about!

Yay! I'm glad it all worked out! Jackson says Hi and he's glad his cousin is healthy.

I have one of those too. No one cares except the dentist.

I'm so glad to hear the news. Thanks for posting the update Doranda! I saw the comment by Martin about how the dentist cares about heart murmurs. So I asked Russ and he said to ask your doctor/cardiologist if Tucker will need to take antibiotics before he goes to the dentist for cleanings. Russ said that during a dental cleaning bacteria can get into the blood stream and accumulate in abnormalities in the heart (like Tucker's heart murmur) and cause problems. So the dentist would have Tucker take an antibiotic before coming in for his cleanings just as a precaution. If he didn't and something went wrong he could be sued. But b/c your cardiologist seems to think his heart murmur isn't a big deal, Tucker might not have to take the antibiotics the dentist will probably have him take (b/c you'll mention it on Tucker's health history). So if you don't want Tucker to take antibiotics that he might not really need, then ask your doctor if Tucker needs to be pre-medicated before he goes to the dentist so you can tell your dentist. Sorry this is so long, but thought I'd share what Tucker will have to deal with going to the dentist.
