WoodBlock Nativity Tutorial

Ok, so this is a repost from last year.  A lot of my readers weren't around then and I didn't want anyone to miss out on one of my favorite tutorials.  Enjoy!

This is a DIY tutorial explaining how to make your own nativity out of 2 x 2 pieces of wood.  It is a great Christmas craft to spruce up your home this time of year.  Perfect for those of you who are looking for something a little less Santa.  This nativity is simple and it reminds me of the humble birth of the Savior.  I saw it at the nativity showing last week and so I recreated it myself.  It was easy to do and I love how it turned out.  It probably took less than an hour if you don't count the time waiting for the paint to dry.

Materials Needed:
1 6" 2x2
1 5" 2x2
1 3/4" x 2 1/2" thin piece of wood
2 doll head/knob 11/2"
1 3/8" button plug
craft paint
blue and yellow paper clips or wire and star
hot glue gun
twine

1. Sand your blocks if necessary and then paint the wood whatever colors you like.  The wait for the paint to dry.  I redid my red a darker red because it was a little too patriotic.

2. Sand the edges for a distressed look.

3. Hot glue your heads on.

4. Glue baby Jesus in place.

5. Tie the twine on and glue it there.  I started with about a 2' piece, wrapped it around twice, tied a bow then cut the ends off.

6. Put your star up.  If using paperclips unbend them, cut the yellow one and glue it into a star shape then glue it to the blue one and hot glue the whole thing onto the back.

Thats all!

It's amazing how you can depict something like this with just a few pieces of wood! Very nice!
