Fire Safety Day

It has been a while since we discussed fire safety with the kids so I was talking to them about it a little here and there when I heard base was having a fire station open house.  It was perfect.  The kids got to practice using a fire extinguisher.

Penelope was the only one brave enough to try on the uniform.

We ate hot dogs and chips.  I'm not really sure why the Subway guy was there.  There were no subs in sight.

After we got home we discussed what to do in our house and how to get outside.  We even did a couple practices and timed everyone.  We were told we have two minutes to get out.  The practices went ok.  Climbing onto the roof was too scary for Beatrix and Tucker was convinced he could jump off the roof and grab onto the concrete wall seven feet away.  During one practice the older girls completely abandoned Beatrix in order to get outside as quickly as possible, but Tucker grabbed her so I guess that attempt to get everyone outside worked out.  The kids wanted more practice so the next day we had a surprise practice.   The fire fighters told me to practice at night, because things feel different in the dark.  So that is what I did.  Leon just happened to be getting into the shower and refused to run outside naked or even with a towel, so he was a little slow getting dressed, but made it to the meeting spot in under two minutes.  The rest went well.  Beatrix in general was pretty scared.  I've noticed that she scares easily.

Hopefully we will never have a fire.  Although practicing to stop, drop, and roll was pretty entertaining.
