Typhoon Hagibis and Shell Hunting

Why do typhoons always happen over the weekend?  Seriously, I feel like they should come any day of the week but of course we have a Super Typhoon Hagibis come right during our three day weekend.  If it was during the week Bob would have had work off.  We had one a few weeks before this that also came over the weekend.  I guess the weather was not in our favor.

Everyone was getting pretty worried about Super Typhoon Hagibis.  The one we had just a few weeks before did some serious damage to base (our house was fine) and this was was supposed to be twice as big so everyone was worried.  I read lots of different articles about how it was going to be the biggest typhoon to hit Japan in decades.  We stocked up on food and even filled our bathtub with back up water just in case.  This picture shows how large it was in relation to Japan.  It completely covers the entire country!

The next picture shows how the eye of the storm is supposed to go right over us in Yokosuka.  We are about the spot where the storm first goes over land.  And not only that but the water is literally right across the street from our house!  We've been told we are safe because we are kind of in an inlet and there is also a big seaway/boardwalk to protect us.

So we shut our shutters and stayed indoors. Here is what happens when we are home for more than 24 hours without going outside.

Lots of mess making!  Calista goes crazy in the pantry about once a week.  Below you can see how sad she was when we pulled her out of there. She also dumped out my meringue powder.  The very one that I can't find in stores or get it to ship to me so my sister brought it over all the way from America.  

 We watched a lot of conference and also finished setting up our Halloween decorations.

Then the day after the typhoon we got up early to go to the beach.  I heard that is the best day to go hunting for shells.

 It was so pretty out and really fun!

Sorry no outfit pictures today.  This weekend I'm staying home and watching General Conference.  Although it can be crazy with the kids I love hearing what the Prophet and other church leaders have to say.  And it is so nice that I can watch it on my Roku or internet at home!

General Confernce

While at my parents house last weekend we had the opportunity to watch General Conference.  It  can be hard to listen with the kids that is why I am grateful that we have such easy access to it on the internet.  An of course we had the traditional waffles and ice cream between sessions.

My Ensign Picture

I was so excited when a friend emailed and asked if it was my picture in the Ensign (lds magazine).  Well, I wasn't actually excited until I looked and saw that I really was.  At first I just thought it must be someone who looks like me.  It is kind of funny because I'm not really sure how they got the picture.  It isn't my mormon.org picture and I might have submitted the picture but I don't remember doing it and they don't have my name in the photograph credits.  Oh well, I don't really care about that anyway.  I am just excited.  I also feel like I would have chosen a different picture if I could have.

On another note.  This weekend is general conference.  It is one of our chances to listen to a Latter-day Prophet of God.  Check it out.

Sunday Conference

We started out our conference Sunday with our new tradition of waffles and ice cream!  It was delicious like usual and it kept the kids busy for a few minutes during the beginning of conference.

There were so many good talks and uplifting things said I can't wait to get the Ensign conference issue next month.  Then I can read through it on my own time and really learn more from it.  Because I didn't take notes I am having a hard time remembering much of what was said yesterday.  I did particularly enjoy President Monsons talk.  He told a funny story about when he was at the temple.   He found out that his speaker was not at the temple but the spirit prompted him to announce that he would speak anyway.  Then the speaker also felt prompted to go to the temple as fast as he could even though he didn't know why.  Right when he walked into the temple he heard his name announced to be the next speaker.  It was much funnier when President Monson told it.  I always love hearing stories about how the Holy Ghost has prompted people to do miraculous things.

 It was a pajama day.

When Scarlett napped bob and the kids also laid down on the couch for a few minutes.  It was cute while it lasted until they started jumping around again.

General Conference

Yesterday's conference was great!  I definitely got more out of the second session when the kids were in bed.  My favorite talk was by Elder Anderson.  He talked about families and having children.  He said there is no certain time or magical amount of kids that each family should have but that it is a matter between the couple and God and no one else.  Sometimes I wish there was a set number I knew I was supposed to have.  Then I could stop worrying about how many I should have.  He then told a story about a woman who got onto a bus with her seven children.  The bus driver asked if they were all hers and if she was taking them on a picnic or something.  She replied that they are all hers and that it is no picnic. Haha I love that. No one ever asks if my three are all mine, probably not because there are only three but because they all look the same!

Here they are pretending to take notes.  Just kidding, I actually took this a couple weeks ago.  We did look a lot like this yesterday except without the ipods.

Busy Yesterday

I am sitting at the computer waiting for General Conference to start.  It is so nice how we can stay home and listen to what the leaders of the church have to tell us.  I remember as a child getting all dressed up to go to church for conference.  Back then I was under the impression that it was the same thing broadcast four times and you get to pick which one you want to go to.  Needless to say I was disappointed as a teenager when I found out that my parents actually wanted me to go to four sessions of conference!  Right now I am hoping that the children will occupy themselves so Bob and I can just lay on the couch and actually hear what they are saying.

Yesterday was a crazy day!  They morning just started out semi busy, which I actually like.  The craziness started when I thought for some reason I could handle taking all three kids to three stores in just over an hour.  It was miserable for all four of us involved.  Penelope screamed when I put her in the cart and ran away when she was out which then triggered Tucker to chase after her so she ran faster because he was getting her.  Then when he would get her he would try to pull her back which started more crying and stares.  This happened a few times at Joann fabrics.  On top of all the difficulties in the stores Tucker opened the car door and hit another car (I parked too close). The person was in the car so I had to talk to them about the mark on their door.  Luckily they were nice and said not to worry about it.  After the stores, nap time did  not go well. Then we needed groceries and more stores because I didn't find what I was looking for earlier in the day.  Basically it felt good when all the kids were in bed. I am happy today is a new day.
