Sick Day

Tucker woke me up this morning crying because he is tired of wiping his nose.  He woke up this morning with red cheeks, a runny nose, a cough, and by the sound of his voice a sore throat.  My kids have had their share of runny noses, but this seems a little bit worse than what they usually get.  I can tell that he just feels "sick."  I took his temp and there is no fever, so I am pretty sure it is just a cold but I still feel bad for him.  Despite my multiple efforts to teach him he can't grasp how to blow your nose so he just keeps wiping it.  It has only been a couple hours and even though I have been putting petroleum jelly on it his upper lip is red.  They don't really have children's cold medicine that works so I feel like there is nothing I can do.  Any suggestions?

On another note, last night was the scout blue and gold ward activity.  It was fun.  My favorite part was the cakes the scouts made.  They were supposed to be disaster themed and they were pretty good.  I didn't get any pictures but the funniest one was a pan of chunky red jello titled 'river of blood.'  It wasn't even a cake!  haha. I think it is going to be fun when Tucker is old enough for scouts.  You just don't see that type of thing with the girls.

Lots of drinks and rest. Popsicles are great.

Same advice really. I think the key is lots of fluids. Humidifiers are life savers for sleeping. And then you have to let it run its coarse. Colds are no fun!

I ditto the lots of liquids. I know you have a humidifier....put it in his room tonight. :) And plenty of TV time!

There is a cold and cough medicine for 2 years old and up at Walmart. Kate's nose gets better whenever she uses it. But I have only found it at Walmart. The brand is Hyland's and on the label it says "Cold 'n Cough 4 Kids Multi-symptom" and there is a picture of a bear. I like it. We also do the Vicks Warm-Mist humidifier. For Anson at night and for naps we use Vicks Baby Rub on his neck and chest along with the humidifier. Good luck!

I know this is long ago, but I am behind at reading your blog, so this is for future advice :) Ditto on the humidifier. As you know I have used them with 6 children. Use the cool air kind :) I run it in their room at first sign they might be coming down with something. It is great! This year I have done that and I don't think anyone has been sick for more than a day :)
