Bunk Beds

The beds are finished and both kids slept in them last night.  For their nap today we tried to have them share but Tucker woke Penelope up and she started crying so we moved her back to her crib.  The other downside is that Tucker usually wakes up at 7:30 and Penelope usually stays happily in her crib until I get her at 9.  With them sharing a room they both get up at the same time.
I think the bed turned out so cute!  Bob did a great job.  To give some perspective the top of the posts is about the same height as my chin.  this way it is very easy to see on top of the bed.  These beds are as wide as a toddler bed but about 10 inches longer which is also about 10 inches shorter than a twin.  We debated about not making them twin size but the rooms are so tiny we thought it would be best.  Online it says that this size generally is good for kids until they are about 10 years old.  that 6 years for Tucker and we will probably actually have Penelope and Scarlett share it when she gets older so we will be able to get lots of years of use out of it.
The latter is where the foot boards would normally go.  Tucker really wanted a slide but we just don't have the space in their room for one.  Notice the mattresses?
The bed is very sturdy and one good thing about it is that it can come apart if we ever want it to.  If you look closely you can see that each post has an extra piece in the middle of it.  Those just come out to separate the bed.

Great job Bob! Bunk looks great! And I still struggle with the kids waking at the same time because they share. On a positive note they are on the same schedule with naps and bed time.

Where did you find odd size mattresses?

Sorry, I figured out the mattress question. That is what happens when you read the post backwards :P
